The Ceffyl Dŵr is a cousin of the Kelpie. The Ceffyl Dŵr is native to Wales. Just like the Kelpie, the Ceffyl Dŵr can also shapeshift. In North Wales, religious variation of the Ceffyl Dŵr is distinctly more malevolent, and willing to cause harm. In South Wales, the religious variation is more friendly and nothing more than a pest some would say. It is uncertain why these variations were made. It is believed that the actions by wixes in South Wales won the kindness of the Ceffyl Dŵr long ago.

The Kelpies are less limited in size than the Ceffyl Dŵr but have more in form. The Ceffyl Dŵr is able to grow wings as they choose, or evaporate into mist. They use this ability a lot in their chosen homes. Usually, they live in mountain pools and waterfalls. Living there helps make their ability movements much easier

The CCeffyl Dŵr sometimes has been known to kill people. It kills people by trampling people on the pathway they frequent, or by having convinced someone to ride them and drown them. They also kill people by taking them into the air and turn into mist having the person fall to their doom. Also, they can be tamed like with kelpies by using a well-placed Bridle. It is harder to tame a Ceffyl Dŵr than it is to tame a Kelpie due to their ability to be untouchable
